Who we are

The Kerala Forum on United Nations Academic Impact is an independent 'NGO' whose mission is to promote United Nations Academic Impact (KFUNAI) in the State of Kerala and Indian National Forum in support of United Nations Academic Impact (INFUNAI) in the rest of the states in India and to promote the ideals enshrined in the United Nations Charter. Presently, KFUNAI/INFUNAI is coordinating 65+ institutions in India. To do all sorts of social and charitable activities like the establishment of orphanages, hostels, old age homes, rehabilitation centers, educational institutions, libraries; the support of students and the weaker sections of the society including the women and the aged; through digital media, publishing of books, newspapers, magazines, etc. and honouring public personalities by giving awards, honours, etc.

Ramu Damodaran

Deputy Director for Partnerships and Public Engagement in the United Nations Department of Public Information’s Outreach Division


Ramu focuses particularly on outreach to, and partnerships with, the non-governmental, academic and private sector constituencies, as well as to the general public. The Division’s programmes include briefings to NGOs, schools, universities and visiting groups, guided tours, exhibits and responses to enquiries about the Organisation. It publishes both the UN Chronicle magazine in print and online editions and the Yearbook of the United Nations, as well commemorating special observances and arranging special events, including the annual conference of non-governmental organisations, the “Unlearning Intolerance” seminar series and the United Nations Day Concert, as well as a training programme for broadcasters and journalists from developing countries. Its most recent initiative is the United Nations Academic Impact. His earlier assignments with the Organization have included the Departments of Peacekeeping and Special Political Questions as well as the Executive Office of the Secretary-General.

He served as Secretary of the Secretary-General’s mission to Kuwait in 1991, following the invasion by Iraq, and as Spokesperson for the Durban Review Conference, held in Geneva in 2009. While a member of the Indian Foreign Service, he served as Executive Assistant to the Prime Minister of India from 1991 to 1994. He has also served in the Indian diplomatic missions in Moscow and at the United Nations and in assignments in New Delhi with a range of government ministries including External Affairs, Home Affairs, Defence, Planning and Human Resource Development. Prior to joining the national government service, he worked extensively in Indian mass media, including television (Doordarshan), radio and print publications, including as a news anchor and disc jockey. His radio feature “Echoes of a Generation” was awarded the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Prize. He has been a stage actor both in India and at the United Nations and is President of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council.

Tovino Thomas

Brand Ambassador for Youth Empowerment and Promoter of
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 Agenda.

Tovino Thomas is an Indian film actor who appears in Malayalam cinema. He made his debut in 2012 with the Malayalam film Prabhuvinte Makkal. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Ennu Ninte Moideen

Early life

Tovino attended Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Irinjalakuda. He graduated from Tamil Nadu College of Engineering, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He later worked in Cognizant Technologies as a software engineer. Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly is his second cousin. Tovino married his longtime girlfriend, Lidiya at St. Thomas Cathedral, Irinjalakuda, on 25 October 2014. The duo had met during their school days and married after nine years. They have a daughter born on 11 January 2016 and a son born on 6 June 2020.


Charity Works Done By Tovino Thomas

The people of Kerala got to see the more humane side of youth icon Tovino Thomas during last year’s flood when the actor was seen volunteering at many relief camps. This year too, Tovino has been actively participating in many relief activities.Tovino visited the collection centre. opened at the Taluk office in the Irinjalakkuda civil station premises.He spoke to RDO C Lathika, tahasildar IJ Madhusudhanan, deputy tahasildar Simish Sabu and tahsildar AJ Mary, to know more about the relief activities conducted in the district.

Tovino also enquired about the relief camps opened in the area. Later, the actor visited a few relief camps including the one functioning at the Edathirinji HDP. Earlier, Tovino had won hearts on the social media, inviting temporarily displaced people to his house.

Through a message posted on his Instagram handle, Tovino had appealed people to seek shelter at any safe house during these devastating times,Last year, Tovino was seen as a volunteer in many relief camps, helping and consoling the people who had lost everything. Keralites had showered praises on the young actor who kept aside his stardom to be one among the common people and help them.

START-Skills and Technology Advancing Rapid Transformation

The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) hosted a seminar on 10 April 2018 at United Nations Headquarters in New York that addressed partnerships in the state of Kerala, India between educational institutions and local governments in support of sustainable development. The seminar focused on meeting the essential needs of the most vulnerable and marginalized communities.
The framework of the meeting was the START (“Skills and Technology Advancing Rapid Transformation”) programme, which considers how research, science and technology can address some of the world’s most pressing issues and problems and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UN75: A Conversation on Rethinking Youth Entreprenuership

As part of the United Nations 75th anniversary initiative (UN75), the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) hosted the "75 for UN75: 75 Minutes of Conversation" series of online dialogues with scholars, educators, researchers and students to discuss their priorities for the future, obstacles to achieving them, and the role of global academic cooperation in rethinking global issues.
A webinar was organized on Thursday, 1st October 2020, on the eve of the International Day of Non-Violence, and birthday of Mahatma Gandhi by the UNAI on the theme "Rethinking Youth Entrepreneurship" as part of this series.

KFUNAI Faculty Councils 2020-2021 Inaugural Meeting and Induction Ceremony

The Inaugural Meeting and Induction Ceremony of Kerala Forum on United Nations Academic Impact 2020 - 2021 was conducted on 21st August, 2020 via video conference. The meeting chaired by Mr. Saji C Thomas, Patron of KFUNAI and Former Civil Servant at UN, had Mr. Ramu Damodaran and Actor Tovino Thomas as chief guests. Mr. Ramu Damodaran, Chief of United Nations Academic Impact, inaugurated the event. Actor Tovino Thomas was inducted to the post of KFUNAI brand ambassador during the meet. The meeting began with the introductory speech by Dr. Roy Sam Daniel, President of KFUNAI. The felicitation speech was given by Mr. Mohammed Basheer, Co-Chair KFUNAI Advisor, and former KFUNAI presidents Dr. Mathews M. George, Dr. Roy Mallaserry, and Dr. T K Mathew.

Inauguration of the UN Academic Impact Programme of CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Unit

The United Nations Academic Impact programme of CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Unit was inaugurated by Dr. Fr. Abraham V M, Vice-Chancellor, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) on 8th February 2021 virtually. The event was graced by Mr. Saji Thomas, Former UN Civil Servant, UNHQ, New York, by delivering the Keynote Address.

DISTINGUISHED TALK ON “GLOBAL PEACE”

Kerala Forum United Nation Academic Impact, UNAI Aspire chapter UKFCET and IEEE Industry Applications Society of UKFCET had jointly organized a prodigious event, a distinguished talk on “Global Peace” as a part of international peace day on 21st September 2020 by a dignified speaker Prof. Juan Carlos Science Borgo Former Diplomat and Dean University for Peace (UPEACE) Costa Rica.

75th UN DAY CELEBRATION

The 75th UN day celebration which was conducted by St .Thomas College Kozhencherry on 26th October 2020 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of United Nations .There was 75 minutes of conversation on Sustainable Development Vision on 2030 . It was conducted by St. Thomas College and organised by the team members Mr.Arun John (co-ordinator) , Mr. Suresh Mathew George , Dr . Martiz Kurian , Dr . Anju V. Jalaj . It was facilitated by the principal Dr.Mathew P .John. The chief guests for the program was Mr.Ramu Damodaran (UNAI Chief United nation , New York ) and Mr. Saji C . Thomas (Patron KFUNAI Former International Civil Servant United Nations ,New York ) .
